Bi-annual turnaround of the refinery consisting of two crude units and a gasoline plant.

The Approach

• Faithful+Gould's role began on site some 15 months prior to the commencement of the turnaround.
• We assisted with the procurement of the main trade contractors, who were procured on the basis of a reimbursable Target Cost Incentive type contract. This concept had never been used by Kuwait Petroleum on previous events.

The Challenge

The turnaround involved over 267,000 main trade man hours over the course of 19 days which required the direct reporting of the daily costs and program to the client's integrated management teams, including the planning and cost management of those unforeseen items, so familiar in the turnaround environment.

Outcome

The Target Cost Incentive contract, a new concept for the Europoort area, resulted in reduced costs and duration with the client also introducing the Target Cost Incentive contracts into its maintenance and project strategies for the site.
