2010 Asian Beach Games facilities, Muscat, Oman
Project
Construction of facilities for the 2nd Asian Beach Games, which are to be held in Oman in 2010.
The approach
The Asian Beach Games project, due to its tight deliverable schedule, has been divided into several construction packages, based on a chronological need for deliverables.
Design packages include:
- Platform construction
- Marine works
- Infrastructure
- Temporary structures
- Hotel
- Athletes' village
- Control centre
- Accommodation
- Landscaping
- Furniture, fittings and equipment
- Facilities management
Faithful+Gould’s project management service began in December 2007.
Outcome
The project is wholly on track and scheduled to be completed on time in June 2010.
This will then allow the organisers to prepare for the Games, which are due to take place in December 2010. The project team are using advanced and modularised construction methods in order to meet this tight timescale.
After hosting the 2nd Asian Beach Games, temporary games structures will be removed. The permanent structures will remain and discussions are underway as to how these structures could continue to operate as part of a leisure destination.
