Masdar Development, Abu Dhabi

Masdar in Abu Dhabi will be the world's first zero-carbon, zero-waste, car free city.

Spanning 6.5km², the city will be developed in 7 phases and will become home to 50,000 residents, an eco-cluster of 1,500 green businesses, and will create 70,000 jobs.

Electricity will be generated by photovoltaic panels, cooling will be provided by concentrated solar power, and water will be provided by a solar-powered water desalination plant.

The approach

Faithful+Gould is:

  • Providing quantity surveying services (cost estimating and cost reporting) for the HQ building and the Masdar Institute of Science & Technology (MIST), and
  • Conducting a review of the masterplan and whole life cycle costing for the city.


Outcome

Phase 1 is scheduled to be complete and habitable in late 2010.
