SmartCity Malta
Project
SmartCity Malta is a self-sustained industry township for knowledge-based companies. It is located in the Ricasoli Estate in Malta and will offer offices, retail facilities, residential and hotel accommodation and open areas - 33% of the township will be devoted to public spaces accessible 24/7, and it has 1km of Mediterranean sea-front view.
Faithful+Gould has been appointed to provide cost consultancy and quantity surveying services. The principal services provided include the reporting, managing and controlling of all financial matters related to the project.
During the design stage we assisted with cost planning, value engineering, tender documentation and assisted the project team on an ongoing basis.
Construction stage activities included:
- General contract administration
- Updating the revised budgets
- Assessment of variations
- Payment certificates
- Cash flows
- Contract management
The Challenges
- International collaboration between the UK and Dubai offices and mutual aid from local sub-consultant to fully reflect the local economic situation.
- This environmentally friendly development must achieve the LEED requirement without having a cost premium.
- Several tender packages and different procurement role for different phases. This project might involve two to five general contractors with numerous domestic and nominated sub-contractors.
Outcome
The project is ongoing and due for completion 2014.
