Quantity Surveyor

San Francisco

I joined Faithful+Gould in August 2005 as a Quantity Surveyor in the North West of the UK, having decided that I wished to relocate with my family abroad.

When a number of opportunities came up in North America, I jumped at the chance. I finally ended up accepting a position in San Francisco having considered four other locations.

My family and I have been out here for a couple of months now and we are thoroughly enjoying it. San Francisco is a great place to live and work. The outdoor lifestyle is great for children and my young daughter is thriving.

Initially based at the head office I was involved in a number of high profile pre-contract projects. I am now working with a large pharmaceutical company providing project controls advice on multi-million dollar projects, whilst also auditing previous projects.

The transition from working in the UK to the USA was relatively straightforward with F+G arranging all the work visas and relocation details. Some of the terminology is different but the job is much the same as back in the UK. Work hard play hard is generally the attitude.

I would recommend the life style change to anybody. Our San Francisco office is very busy and is always looking for qualified and enthusiastic people to join the team.
