Profile - Trainee Quantity Surveyor
Joanne, Leeds
An ‘average’ day for me as a trainee quantity surveyor involves assisting qualified Quantity Surveyors in a number of ways, varying from checking measurements, estimates, working with final accounts, attending site meetings and helping complete meeting minutes to general admin duties around the office.
The aspect of my role that I enjoy the most is the fact that there is a lot of variation in the work that I am doing, as I don’t work solely on one job.
My interest in this industry became apparent when a friend of mine attended a presentation about women in construction. The industry appealed to me as it seemed a diverse route to investigate. Having come freshly from completing my A levels the opportunity offered by Faithful+Gould to complete a degree while working became an ideal step to progress. My current qualifications are nine GCSEs and A levels/AS levels in law, psychology, business & economics, sociology, media and general studies.
Within the first few months of joining Faithful+Gould, I became involved in assisting on a project with the Highways Agency. It was impressive seeing such a large scale building being constructed and to learn about the method and processes involved with the project. In the near future I hope to successfully complete my degree, gain work experience and perhaps transfer to our New York office where the sun shines!
