What is BREEAM?

BREEAM is the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method(this is an external link and will open in a new window), and is essentially a points-based system for rating the environmental performance of buildings.

‘Credits' are grouped under:

  • Management
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Energy and Transport
  • Water
  • Materials
  • Waste
  • Land Use and Ecology
  • Pollution

The number of credits earned translates into BREEAM ratings:

 >25%Pass
 >40%Good
 >55%Very Good
 >70%Excellent
 >85%Outstanding
