Birmingham Women's NHS Foundation Trust - 6 facet survey
- The preparation of a technical estates review and report to inform and support the Birmingham Women's NHS Foundation Trust in their preparation of an Estates Strategy.
- An original 6 facet survey was completed in 2006 and then updated in July 2009.
- The project involved a 6 facet survey of the main Birmingham Women's Hospital building (21,561m2) and a high-level physical condition survey of an additional Trust property (13,934m2).
- The physical condition survey results were analysed and reported upon by application of the DoH 'risk-based methodology for establishing and managing backlog'.
The approach
- An agreed programme was established for access to all areas for carrying out the physical condition survey.
- A programme of interviews was arranged with clinical staff to consider the functional suitability, space utilisation and quality facets.
The challenge
- To carry out and complete the surveys without any disturbance to clinical activities and to be aware of and maintain patient respect, dignity and privacy.
Outcome
- All surveys and interviews were completed without impacting upon the Trust's clinical activities.
- The information was provided as required to inform the Trust's strategic planning.
