Gloucestershire College of Art and Technology (GLOSCAT)
A £26 million project to provide 4 new buildings on the campus.
The new accommodation chiefly provides for vocational based courses, including:
- motor vehicle engineering,
- technology studies,
- construction trades,
- performing arts,
- childcare,
- information technology,
- hairdressing, and
- science.
There are also traditional classrooms, a main reception, college administration offices and restaurant facilities.
A separate crèche facility for students is provided in a retained listed building.

The approach
- Provision of pre-contract cost planning, value engineering and works package Bills of Quantities.
- Two stage design and build contract.
The challenge
- Working with the client, contractor and design team to achieve extensive new facilities within a very tight construction budget.
- The college is situated within the old docks area in Gloucester, and includes limited car parking plus pedestrian and cycle routes.
Outcome
- Completed one month early (June 2007), in time for students joining the college in September.
- Competed within the agreed contract sum.
