  • Client: Exchequer Partnership
  • Value: £100 million

Project

  • 2nd Phase of PFI redevelopment of Grade II listed building to relocate headquarters of Customs and Excise and Inland Revenue.
  • Faithful+Gould was appointed as cost consultants to Exchequer Partnership, a consortium comprising Stanhope and Bovis Lend Lease.

The approach

  • Liaising closely with the incoming tenants as well as the incumbent Treasury departments to develop a 'one building policy' which avoided duplication of certain hard and soft services.
  • Remodelling over 500 rooms to maximise open plan accommodation.

The challenge

  • To deliver cost savings through design efficiencies and lessons learnt from the first phase of the HM Treasury project, without reducing quality or client satisfaction.
  • Technical challenges included the introduction of an open plan floor space at 4th floor level surrounding the historic central drum area as well as the adaptation of the listed fine rooms at 2nd floor level to modern meeting rooms with hi-tech audio-visual equipment.

Outcome

  • The project was completed ahead of programme and to budget, to the client's great satisfaction.
  • Won the BCI Conservation Award.
