Faithful+Gould was appointed to provide building surveying and cost management services to the Presbyterian Church in Wales.

The programme included:

  • Condition surveys
  • Submission of costs for remedial repairs
  • Reinstatement cost assessments

The project covered 300 chapels and manse houses across Wales.

While the head office of the Presbyterian Church of Wales is in Cardiff, the stock of chapels and churches is split into three regions:

  • North (covering North and Mid Wales)
  • South East (covering Glamorgan and Gwent)
  • West (covering the remainder of the principality)

This created logistical challenges during the programming of works.

The project involved work on a mixed collection of chapels and manse houses dating from early 20th century through to recent properties.

Several properties are Grade I, II and II* listed and afforded statutory protection. We used our expertise to ensure that remedial works were specified with sensitivity to each building's staus and history.
