Master Planning

An artist's impression of SmartCity in Malta Master planning for large scale developments provides a unique opportunity to create holistic solutions.

The process typically requires numerous option studies to identify and validate the best approaches. These must reconcile social, economic, environmental, cultural, infrastructure and commercial aspirations.

Against this complex background, the early identification of risks, maximisation of value and management of cost, together with awareness of environmental and planning issues, are crucial to project sustainability.

The master planning process

We begin by developing a project framework through design workshops with stakeholders. Subsequent proposals are then focused on creating appropriate links between residential, retail, leisure and commercial premises and the transport infrastructure, taking into account the planning application stages.

Feasibility reviews inform the development appraisal process and are compiled into a master cost document which allows options and different phasing scenarios to be analysed.

Our experience

We have provided cost advice on a number of schemes across the UK, including the 2012 Olympic Park.

Faithful+Gould was one of the consultants appointed to provide cost estimates for the infrastructure of the Olympic Park, excluding venues and the development of business cases studies for funding approval. In addition Faithful+Gould provided cost advice on the procurement of the utilities infrastructure.
