J. Paul Getty Trust - The Getty Center, Los Angeles, CA

The J. Paul Getty Trust, a $6 billion international and philanthropic foundation that focuses on the arts and humanities, selected Faithful+Gould to oversee construction of the $1 billion Getty Center in Los Angeles, CA.

The 110-acre hilltop complex is home to the Getty Museum(this is an external link and will open in a new window), the Getty Research Institute(this is an external link and will open in a new window) and the Getty Conservation Institute(this is an external link and will open in a new window).

The Getty Museum features a permanent collection of European paintings, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, sculpture, decorative arts, and American and European photographs.

The approach

  • We analyzed and evaluated the cost and construction feasibility of the project, including a comprehensive review of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing and structural systems for the architect.
  • We also advised the architect and owner at planned milestones on cost management initiatives to keep the project on time and within budget.

The challenge

Located in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains, the Getty Center encompasses more than 1.2 million square feet of floor space in six major structures.

Outcome

The project was completed on time and within budget.
