Building A Relationship With SFPUC Has Its Rewards

A two-year investment in building a relationship with the San Francisco Public
Utilities Commission (SFPUC) has resulted in a win for our Infrastructure Sector in the West Region.

As one of the largest infrastructure utilities in the West Region, SFPUC, with an  annual budget of $816.5 million, provides water, wastewater and electric power services to the city and an additional 1.6 million customers within three San Francisco Bay Area counties.

“Utilizing a client-focused approach to building relationships at all levels of the SFPUC organization, we have been able to grow a small quality assurance commission into a significant project,” states Nick Harney, VP of Infrastructure.

We assembled experienced Faithful+Gould staff from multiple offices to take the client through our suggested approach to implementing a dashboard solution. During initial scope conversations, we advised SFPUC to work with its program managers, AECOM-Parsons JV, to focus on a client needs assessment instead of selecting the incumbent’s proprietary Project Management Information System (PMIS). We were subsequently asked by SFPUC to provide a proposal to carry out this work ourselves and were successful.

Over the next six months, our staff will conduct a client needs assessment through a series of workshops. The results will be captured into a requirement traceability matrix and multiple alternatives identified. We will then conduct due diligence on the top alternatives to determine a business case for each. From there, the client will select the best alternative suitedto their needs.

Our staff will also oversee the functional specification and ensure it meets the original scope the client selected.
