We have been selected to provide owner’s representative services to Bel Brands USA for a new 170,000-square-foot cheese manufacturing facility in Brookings, SD. The company will invest approximately $100 million to build its new manufacturing plant on a 48-acre land parcel.

Plant construction is planned in two phases with ground breaking for the first phase planned for this summer.

Francine Moudry, project director for Bel Brands USA, said, “Having Faithful+Gould on our side is a key in the success of our ambitious plan. Its expertise from planning to cost and risk management will help and guide us to deliver this project within the defined timeframe and budget. Its multidisciplinary team, with a very flexible and hands-on approach, has established a very strong relationship with our teams both here in the U.S. and overseas in France. Through this strong collaboration, the project is moving forward rapidly.”

When completed, the facility will produce Bel Brand’s Mini Babybel® cheese. The French cheese company currently has two other production facilities in the U.S., located in Leitchfield, KY, and Little Chute, WI. Bel Brands has experienced significant growth over the past few years, and this new plant is essential to expanding its production capacity to meet the growing demand for the Mini Babybel® cheeses. Sales of Mini Babybel® in the U.S. total 17 million pounds. To meet the current demand, the company now imports more than 50 percent of the Mini Babybel® business, with the goal to attain a sales volume of 22 million pounds, or 10,000 tons by next year.

Jonathan Marshall, senior vice president for Faithful+Gould’s Food & Beverage/Agribusiness Sector, commented, “Our track record includes working with international clients’ building facilities in the United States, like Barilla Pasta, as well as a successful history of supporting food manufacturing clients to plan and deliver large capital projects.

“This helps to provide Bel Brands USA with the knowledge that we are protecting its best interests in the advisement of the project delivery method, selection of design and construction partners, and managing this fast track project within the agreed budget and timeframe,” continued Marshall. “We are very pleased to be involved in this exciting and strategic project with Bel Brands USA.”
