Faithful+Gould successfully deliver Toppen Shopping Centre in Malaysia

Faithful+Gould, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, is pleased to celebrate the successful opening of the new five-storey Toppen Shopping Centre in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, on 13 November 2019. Faithful+Gould has been project managing the delivery of the project since 2017, working closely with the client’s on-site team.

Toppen is one of five Ikano Centres that are part of IKEA Southeast Asia – the franchisee that owns and operates IKEA stores in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. All its centres are directly connected to IKEA stores. Toppen spans 116,849 square metres and has a rooftop community hub – complete with splash park, sports courts, a climbing wall, skate park and cinemas.

The project will create a destination for residents and visitors alike, from Malaysia and nearby Singapore. Being entrusted with the second project by our client is also a testament to our team and the close and growing working relationship with them and their stakeholders.”

The project is directly linked to the operating IKEA Tebrau store. Ensuring the project’s construction progress whilst minimising disruption to the operation and customer experience to the IKEA store was a key challenge.

“The 200,000sqm project was delivered in a short 29 months. The knowledge that our team gained through the successful delivery and opening of the adjacent IKEA store, close coordination with multiple consultants and contractors, as well as careful on-site logistics management were key to the success of this project,” added Justin Hotton, Senior Project Director at Faithful+Gould.

Prior to Toppen Shopping Centre, Faithful+Gould project managed the delivery of the connecting IKEA store. The first IKEA store in southern Malaysia is among the largest in in Southeast Asia, opened to customers in November 2017.
