Ford Plant - Sanand, Gujarat, India

Faithful+Gould is working in partnership with the auto manufacturing giant on their new 460-acre production facility. Ford Motor Co. opened its second factory in India on March 26th 2015, a US$1 billion investment that will double the American auto manufacturer’s annual output in the country.

Chief Minister of Gujarat, Anandiben Patel, was among the guests of honour at the inauguration ceremony along with other local dignitaries and Ford’s senior executives including President and CEO Mark Fields. The launch coincided with the unveiling of the Figo Aspire, Ford’s new model and a strong contender in India’s fiercely competitive compact car market.

In July 2014, we were engaged to support Ford’s expansion programme within the new campus. Our involvement covered a total area of approximately 6 million square feet, which comprised five buildings and its surrounding infrastructure under the design-build model. We provided project management services from inception to completion including procurement, project coordination, and monitoring of works. Given the varying nature and complexity of each package, strict monitoring of the activities and close coordination with multiple inter-department stakeholders were required to ensure the project stayed on track.

Having developed a solid partnership with Ford through this project, our role has been extended for additional works on the campus. Simon Chivers, operations director for India, commented: “Our project manager, Vivekanand Choudhary, has worked closely with Ford to ensure that their exacting standards for quality and punctuality are met. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Ford into mid-2016.”

The state-of-the-art Sanand facility has one of the highest levels of automation in Asia Pacific. It will be able to produce 240,000 vehicles and 270,000 engines a year and will generate employment for thousands.
