Located at the financial high-tech service area in Guangdong 'C' District, the IKEA Foshan store covers an area of 85,642 square metres, built to three floors with two levels of basement. It houses a self-serve area, market hall, and showrooms tailored for Foshan residents, providing more than 9,500 different furniture and household goods for consumers to choose from. The restaurant on the third floor accommodates up to 800 customers, where one can enjoy IKEA's famous Swedish cuisine.
Faithful+Gould was commissioned by the IKEA Group to provide project management services for the store. Faithful+Gould's scope of work entailed design and construction of the basement, super-structure, building shell and interior finishes, as well as safety management.

The new store was Faithful+Gould's first commercial project in Foshan and our third IKEA project. In recent years, Foshan – a municipal-level city in Guangdong province – has accelerated its economic development, giving rise to a strong middle class that aspires to international lifestyle products. For these customers, design and a comprehensive range of affordable products under one roof are the attraction. Hence, with the new Ikea store, the client's aim was to create a landmark destination in Foshan that serves millions of visitors annually and to offer a wide selection of home furnishing inspiration and solutions.
Michael Yang, Faithful+Gould's regional director, commented: "The success of the project is down to the strong relationship built with the IKEA Group, and the level of project management experience we brought to the table. Our team, comprising Richard Zhang, senior project manager, and Dongjian Pu, project EHS manager, have completed three IKEA projects, while other employees, such as EHS supervisor Henry Hu, quantity surveyor Fan Yang, and CSA engineers Yanqing Gao and Wei Wan, were involved in the IKEA Hangzhou project. So, congrats to our project team for a job well done!"

He added: "Timely completion of the project was almost a ‘mission impossible’ due to the long monsoon season. However, by applying our technical expertise and working collaboratively with the client and other consultants, we were able to hand over the store on time, within budget and to exacting safety standards. We completed 1.94 million man-hours on the IKEA Foshan site without any lost time incident, bringing this to a cumulative figure of 6 million man-hours on the IKEA stores that we delivered including Hangzhou, Baoshan, and the on-going project in Harbin, northeastern China."
