Sandvik Warehouse and Distribution Centre, Singapore

The distribution centre consists of 22,000m² over 4 floors and also has a basement carpark. The fourth floor provides office accommodation for the Singapore operation of the company and has an open-air terrace to the front. The client, Sandvik South East Asia, chose the location of the building after Faithful+Gould had been engaged to study some alternative sites. It is located within the Singapore Airport Logistics Park, immediately adjacent to Changi Airport. We developed the employer’s requirements for the contract, which was a modified JCT Design and Build Contract. We were also responsible for assisting the client in selecting designers for the office accommodation and for managing the fitting out works. We also provided project management and quantity surveying services.

The location presented some site-specific challenges such as proximity to aviation fuel storage tanks, terrorist threats and avoiding reflective surfaces that could cause problems for pilots. Unlike similar facilities in Singapore, this building is fully air conditioned and designed in such a way as to be highly energy efficient. This is achieved by providing an insulated building envelope including double glazed windows. The project was completed in August 2007.
