On 8th November 2013, Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest typhoons ever recorded, swept across Southeast Asia, tearing through central Philippines, leaving thousands dead and millions more displaced. As many of our colleagues are from this area of the world, we called upon staff support in Asia Pacific to raise funds needed to aid the rescue efforts and emergency relief supplies for the survivor’s recovery.
Clad in red, blue, white or yellow – colours of the Philippine flag, our colleagues across our APAC offices participated in the Dress for the Philippines Day Fundraiser held on 6th December in support of this cause. The success of this fundraiser was attributed to the kindness and generosity of our colleagues in the region as well as other offices around the world, who rallied together with us in this initiative.
Together with the support of the APAC businesses in matching staff contribution, we raised a total of S$2,741 (¥13,135; INR134,386; £1324). All proceeds went to the Philippines Typhoon Appeal through RedR, an international disaster relief charity which trains aid workers and provides skilled professionals to humanitarian programmes worldwide, helping to save and rebuild the lives of people affected by natural and man-made disasters.
