Faithful+Gould Project Manager Wins Top Industry Award

Chris Edwards, one of our most experienced project managers, has been recognised for his outstanding work on the Jumeirah Lakes Towers project in Dubai after being named Construction Week’s GCC Project Manager of the Year.

Chris, who has more than 20 years’ experience in the industry, leads the project management team for the $15billion Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) development comprising 86 towers varying between 32 and 64 storeys, four artificial lakes and its supporting roads and infrastructure. Under his guidance, Faithful+Gould has been providing its services to master developer, Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Authority (DMCCA), for six years.

During this time the global economic climate has been through some of the most turbulent times ever witnessed, putting huge pressure on the project. It was Chris’s responsibility to manage and stabilise activities at the site during this period while significant changes and cutbacks in project personnel occurred – from the client group, within his own staff, the consultant design and supervision teams and the contractor’s staff.

Nigel Sale, resident director of Faithful+Gould in the Middle East, says: “Chris performed a fantastic job in keeping focus on the tasks at hand, maintaining morale, developing his own team’s skills and resolving conflicts to ensure the project was able to adapt to the changing economic circumstances.

“This is a vast and challenging project in its own right so what Chris achieved in unprecedented circumstances was outstanding and he richly deserves his award, I’m delighted for him.”

Chris currently heads a team of 16 project, cost and administration staff at the JLT site, (the team totalled over 100 at peak) to manage the designers, construction supervisors and contractors across multiple contract packages. His role in developing the long term development strategy for this complex and high density project has ensured that to date, 60 towers are complete and a further 23 are expected to finish by 2014, while the project has become an important new district for Dubai.

Chris said: “I am honoured and privileged to be recognised in the industry. I wouldn’t have achieved it without the support of an excellent project team around me so I’d like to thank them for their hard work and dedicate this award to all of them.

“JLT has been an incredible project to work on and our success is a real testament to what we call our ‘Constructive Expertise’. We’ve really been able to bring our skills and knowledge to bear, working closely with a great, forward thinking client in order to deliver at a time when many projects have fallen by the wayside."

In addition to Chris’s award, F+G was Highly Commended for the JLT project itself in the Project of the Year category. The Construction Week awards, now in their seventh year, are the foremost event celebrating the achievements of the region’s construction industry.
