Located in Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate, Global Switch’s new data centre will become Hong Kong’s largest carrier and cloud neutral multi-customer data centre offering a network-dense environment with low latency connectivity.
The facility, once fully developed, will provide approximately 71,000sqm of gross space with 100MVA utility power supply. Built to be energy efficient and sustainable, the facility has a chilled water cooling system that reduces its carbon footprint, targeting a market-leading PUE of 1.5, a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold rating, and a Hong Kong Green Building Council’s BEAM Plus gold rating. The data centre also benefits from flexible loading dock facilities, storage and staging facilities, unboxing rooms, conferencing and meeting rooms, a state-of-the-art board room and training areas.
John Corcoran, Chief Executive Officer of Global Switch, said: “We are proud to launch our eleventh and flagship data centre, Global Switch Hong Kong, and unveil its facilities and services in collaboration with our world-class cooperation partners China Telecom Global and Daily-Tech. The new data centre will be Hong Kong’s largest carrier and cloud neutral facility and one of the region’s most advanced. Its state-of-the-art carrier and cloud capabilities offer our current and future customers unprecedented opportunities to streamline and grow their businesses.
“With the launch of Stage 1 of the data centre, we have increased the size of Global Switch’s global portfolio to 320,000 square meters (3,450,000 square feet). In response to market demand, construction of Stage 2 is already underway and it is on target to become operational in 2018.
Appointed in August 2015, Faithful+Gould’s data centre experts are providing end-to-end project management services, supporting the Global Switch peer review and commercial teams, and overseeing the design, procurement, planning, construction, testing and commissioning, handover and close out the project.
Jason Hawkins, Faithful+Gould’s Operations Director for Hong Kong comments, ”We are very proud to have delivered this project and are pleased to be continuing our partnership approach with Global Switch on stage 2 of this exciting development. As the Design & Build model is non-typical for data centre projects in Hong Kong, Faithful+Gould is working in close collaboration with the client and various consultant teams across the globe to ensure stringent programme requirements are adhered to, and a highly resilient infrastructure is delivered.”
