Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa, Oman

The project was condition appraisal following cyclone damage. The Shangri La Barr Al Jissah Hotel and Spa is one of the premier 5* and 6* resorts and spas in Oman. During 2007 the resort incurred substantial cyclone damage which required urgent assessment before insurance claim works were commissioned. Faithful+Gould responded quickly and sent a surveying team to the resort to work alongside insurance claim assessors. After an intense period of site surveys and reporting, a package of repair works were agreed to the satisfaction of the resort management and insurance claim team.

The approach was to work with loss adjusters and third party surveyors to agree the scope of damage and to agree the repair processes. The challenges were to assess a large luxury hotel complex following cycle damage. To agree the condition and repair strategy in order to meet a demanding programme.

Outcome:

  • The delivery of a comprehensive condition survey for all of the fabric of the hotel complex (3 luxury hotels plus spa and ancillary buildings).
  • The hotel owners made a successful insurance claim - based upon the agreed conditions identified and the work required as outlined in our report.
  • The hotel owners have sufficient information based on our report for areas where there may be future deterioration in the building structure and fabric.
