Faithful+Gould has an outstanding reputation for delivering projects in the education sector which has led to our appointment by Southampton City Council to lead the multi-disciplinary team and provide project management, quantity surveying and health and safety services for the redevelopment of Springwell Primary School.
Due to an increase in demand for special educational needs (SEN) primary places across the city, the existing Springwell Site was identified by the Council as having the potential to expand, through a £12m two phase expansion. Following the recent expansion, Springwell School, which provides teaching facilities for children aged 4-11 with complex learning difficulties, is now one of the largest SEN primary school facilities in Europe, currently providing 208 primary places and employing over 130 full-time members of staff. The School continues to be an “Outstanding” Ofsted rated educational facility.
The project followed a traditional procurement route, with the design team staying fully in control of the design development. This enabled us to ensure any key changes, to meet the School’s very specific requirements, were easily obtainable throughout the project’s progression.
This project was one of the first commissions undertaken by Faithful+Gould for Southampton City Council and further to its successful delivery, the Southampton office continues to support the Council across a number of work streams.
Colin Floyd, Project Manager, Southampton City Council said “A big thank you from me, the end result is just wonderful!”
