The award scheme recognises outstanding architecture, planning and design in the built environment. National and International winners, including commended projects will be announced mid December.

The Congress Theatre team celebrate the recent announcement of achieving regional finalist status in the 2017 AABC Civic Trust Awards.

The Eastbourne theatre underwent a facelift of its prominent façade in 2015, as well as some interior works. The new façade has been restored to replicate its original design from the early 1960's, so successful has the restoration been that many locals have asked what the difference is since the scaffolding came down.

Richard Stocking, Faithful+Gould's Heritage consultant and project lead on The Congress commented: "I'm over the moon about the Congress being named as a regional finalist in the Civic Trust Awards. It was a fascinating project to be part of. We worked as a truly collaborative team throughout the restoration, using new techniques and challenging what has been done before. Complete restoration to the original façade was key to our success and I'm delighted with what we have achieved as a team, using our collective knowledge and experience to bring back to life this community orientated project."

The Congress has also been recognised in previous awards, winning an award at the Scheueco Excellence Awards in September 2016 and being shortlisted for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) South East Awards in early 2016.

Our greatest achievement will always be however from the public who cannot tell the difference since the restoration - which is the greatest compliment a restorative project can achieve.
