Faithful+Gould, along with clients and design team celebrated the recognition of two of their showcase projects, Riverside (SEN) School (Phase 1) and Symons House Leeds, receiving highly commended awards at the regional Constructing Excellence Awards on 11th July.

In the Value category, the £3.5m new build Riverside SEN School (Phase 1) was the first to be recognised with Highly Commended from the judges. This new two storey extension provides seven additional classrooms along with a specialist hydrotherapy pool, a new hall, gym, sensory room, small group rooms and office space and was part of East Riding’s accessibility strategy to address the growing requirement for SEN provision in the region.

"I’m incredibly proud to be involved with Riverside School and the entire project team who have contributed to this achievement"

Alastair Peal, Faithful+Gould Senior Project Manager

Senior Project Manager and Faithful+Gould’s lead for this project, Alastair Peal commented “The success of Riverside School demonstrates how a collaborative team approach contributes to a better understanding and delivery of the key values held by Clients. I’m incredibly proud to be involved with Riverside School and the entire project team who have contributed to this achievement.”

When approaching the highly acclaimed Building Project of the Year category, Faithful+Gould was named again, this time receiving a Highly Commended award for the £25m demolition and new build Student Residential Symons House Leeds. This new 21-storey building which is highly prominent within the Leeds City Centre compromises of 350 premium student studios and cluster flats, a cinema room, gym, dinner party room, lounge areas, seminar & reading rooms and games area. It is set to open in September 2020 but has already added value to and benefited the local community and environment by engaging with local charities, enforcing various environmental initiatives and providing employment for two homeless personnel from within the Leeds Area.

"The Symons House team is a very special group who all embrace the ethos of collaboration, transparency and are devoted to do something positive every day."

Jim Barron, Faithful+Gould Regional Director

Regional Director at Faithful+Gould and Principal Designer for this project, Jim Barron commented “The Symons House team is a very special group who all embrace the ethos of collaboration, transparency and are devoted to do something positive every day. This approach has led to a hugely successful project that has also engaged with the local community and it is superb that this has been recognised by Constructing Excellence Awards’ judges.”

Phil Davies, Regional Director for Leeds City Region at Faithful+Gould presented the award for the Preservation and Rejuvenation category, a category close to our heart given our wealth of expertise in working on conservation projects including Kirkgate Market and Cusworth Hall, and projects currently underway in Leeds City Centre, the heart of the Southbank Temple Works, Tower Works along with The Methodist Centre on the Headrow.

It was a fantastic evening celebrating some great projects from around the region. Congratulations to all the winners and good luck at the National Awards in London on November 8th, when Faithful+Gould will be up for the National Award in the People Development category.
