Faithful+Gould continue excellent delivery of education projects in Scotland

Claire Nelson
Faithful+Gould is proud to continue its experienced delivery of projects within the Scottish education sector, recently completing the new £47m state-of-the-art Lochside Academy for hub North Scotland and Aberdeen City Council.

The project was successfully delivered through the hub DBFM procurement model which harnesses the benefit of private revenue funding for the local authority. Lochside Academy is the largest financial investment made by Aberdeen City Council educational portfolio in the past 10 years. The project amalgamated two existing academies producing first class accommodation for up to 1,350 pupils. The innovative teaching facilities were developed to promote social inclusion by widening access to teaching and encouraging lifelong learning.

The steel frame building, provides a large central teaching block stretching over three floors including a dedicated roof top art studio, additional support spaces as well as a vocational block dedicated to teaching “non-academic” skills supported by the curriculum for excellence. Amenities include a large sports block with six lane swimming pool, spectator seating, sports hall, dance hall, fitness suite and café for use by the school and local community. Focus was placed on increased connectivity between adjacent spaces to maximise safety for staff and pupils. Gender neutral toilets, dedicated quiet zones and collaboration spaces help to successfully promote equality and inclusion for all pupils.

Faithful+Gould provided the Project Management, Cost Consultancy services and was supported by an experienced educational design team. We were responsible for the technical workstream and our main roles included managing the design team through Key Stage 1 and 2, supporting the client through technical challenges and undertaking periodic reviews to ensure that the project achieved value for money against the SFT guidelines. The project was successfully delivered within the two year construction programme and within the original contract sum.

Gordon Wilkinson, Director at Faithful+Gould commented:

I am immensely proud of what the team has achieved delivering a state of the art school for all pupils underpinned by the ethos of social inclusion, flexibility and lifelong learning. It has been a pleasure to work on such great projects and continue our excellent delivery of education projects in Scotland.

The delivery of Lochside Academy, is the latest in a five year relationship with hub North Scotland and Aberdeen City Council, with Faithful+Gould also working with them on Brimmond Primary School providing accommodation for 420 primary and nursery pupils with a focus on additional support services, and Orchard Brae, a complex needs school providing accommodation for up to 130 full time children and young people with severe and complex needs.

Faithful+Gould is now transferring our DBFM procurement educational experience into the healthcare sector, currently working with hub North Scotland and NHS Highlands to replace existing healthcare facilities in challenging rural locations via the DBFM procurement model.
