The Core building in Brindleyplace, Birmingham won the Midlands and East Anglia Commercial Workplace award while the award for London Refurbished or Recycled Workplace went to Government Offices, Great George St, London.
Faithful+Gould provided quantity surveying services on both schemes.
The BCO awards provide public recognition for top quality design and functionality and a benchmark for excellence in office space.
Judges of this year’s Awards Programme commended the enterprise of developers Argent in linking two yet to be constructed buildings to an existing one to create 26,000sq m of office space for Royal Bank of Scotland at the Core building in Brindleyplace, central Birmingham.
The development team had to adapt designs to provide level floors throughout, linking three independent blocks and provide access and fire escapes for the combined space. At the same time the individual buildings' differences in external elevational treatment were retained, reducing the perceived overall mass in the context of Brindleyplace as a whole.
The Government Offices in Great George St, London won the regional award for best refurbished or recycled workspace. The transformation from fusty old government offices to a vibrant new workplace has attracted new tenants, Customs & Excise and the Inland Revenue.
Great care was taken, such as renovating hundreds of windows rather than replacing with modern frames. New elements include linking buildings each side of the courtyard by an extra floor and walkway. More space came from covering old lightwells, while cellular offices were opened up without damaging historic ceilings and panelling.
Commenting on the awards, Faithful+Gould head of property Andy Speight said: "Faithful+Gould is involved with many of the nation’s most significant construction projects and buildings, so it is good to see our projects in the awards yet again."
Last year the PricewaterhouseCoopers building at Cornwall Court, in Cornwall Street, central Birmingham won the top BCO award of ‘Best of the Best’ title, as well as the National and Regional awards for Fit-out Workplace. Faithful+Gould’s appointment included project management, quantity surveying and planning supervision services for the scheme.
