The north east offices of international project management and cost consultants, Faithful+Gould is proving its staff are some of the safest around. With a reputation within the construction industry for continuously improving levels of health and safety, Faithful+Gould’s Teesside and Newcastle offices have recently introduced the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS).
Established ten years ago by CSCS Ltd it was embraced by the some of the construction sector’s leading representative bodies, including the Federation of Master Builders and CITB – Construction Skills. Introduced to improve quality and decrease accidents within the construction industry CSCS has gained a good reputation within the sector.
Proving that people working within the construction industry have a high health and safety awareness and are competent to do their job, a mandate was set out by WS Atkins CEO, Keith Clarke, that all staff no matter their position should hold a CSCS card. With a commitment to health and safety the CSCS card scheme has been rolled out across WS Atkins and Faithful+Gould’s offices over the last year to encompass approximately 1,500 staff in the UK.
Speaking about the scheme, Graham Tyerman, associate director and north cluster HSE manager, "With more and more clients requesting staff to hold a CSCS card before allowing access onto a construction site, Faithful+Gould is proud to have undertaken a very proactive approach to the safety of its staff. The card gives Faithful+Gould’s employees a basic but thorough understanding of issues they are likely to encounter on a building site with an appreciation of any potential hazards and risks to optimise their safety."
Complementing Faithful+Gould’s commitment to the safety of its staff, driver assessments have also been introduced because Faithful+Gould has the largest and youngest group of road users within the WS Atkins group. In a joint agreement with the Institute of Advanced Motoring (IAM) Faithful+Gould has introduced the assessments across all it UK offices.
With the purpose of reducing road accidents and identifying drivers within the company that are deemed to be of high risk of traffic accidents, employees are provided with on-line assessments which spots individuals requiring further driving training. Staff requiring further assistance are offered courses, hands on assistance and practical tuition to those employees failing at any stage.
