This exciting project has been delivered by our Leeds office who were commissioned to provide cost management services for the redevelopment of the existing leisure world facility. We were involved in the project from the initial design stage and continued to support East Riding of Yorkshire Council throughout all stages of the project. As part of our remit we were also tasked with cost managing and providing the NEC3 project management role for the provision of a new temporary pool which made use of legacy training pools from the London 2012 Olympics.
This month, East Riding of Yorkshire Council opened their leisure centre to the public and hosted a grand opening at the new facility. In attendance were all members of the project team, stakeholders and special guests: Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington OBE, former world champion and Olympic silver medallist in badminton, Gail Emms MBE and former professional footballer Dean Windass.
East Riding Leisure Bridlington offers: a 25 metre competition pool; the 'Splash Zone' with two interactive waterslides and water play features; the 'Tone Zone' with 100 stations; the 'Clip n Climb' area; an exercise studio; a sports hall; a jacuzzi and health suite; and a café. It is also now the home of Bridlington's new Tourist Information Centre. The leisure facility is such a key asset to the community not only to the local residents but also to tourists. Throughout the pre and post contract stages of the project, East Riding of Yorkshire Council demonstrated a strong desire to include the public and local community in the design and construction process. This investment in the local community was evidenced through early public consultations and continued by the public site visits which took place throughout the construction phase of the scheme.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council have experienced an over whelming response to the new facility, with over 15,000 members of the public visiting and making use of the facilities within the first two weeks of opening. Now after only one month of opening, over 50,000 people have visited and made use of the fantastic facilities available. Faithful+Gould was selected as part of the project team as a result of our key cost management expertise, our enthusiasm and the industry knowledge gained through maintaining a strong position in the construction industry and consultancy.
...the project has been awarded both 'BIM project of the Year' and 'Best of the Best' at the Yorkshire and Humber Constructing Excellence Awards 2016.
East Riding Leisure is the Council's first major project to utilise Building Information Modelling (BIM). The use of BIM was critical to Faithful+Gould's appointment and our ability to dovetail our cost management services into this new challenge. Faithful+Gould adopted a proactive approach to cost management by delivering accurate cost plans quickly through extracting the necessary quantities from the model. The time saved measuring quantities enabled Faithful+Gould to focus on more value adding activities such as value management and engineering and more frequent attendance at design team meetings to influence the early design decisions to ensure budget was adhered to.
Since the facility opened, the project has been awarded both 'BIM project of the Year' and 'Best of the Best' at the Yorkshire and Humber Constructing Excellence Awards 2016.
Adam Holmes, Principal Project Manager for East Riding of Yorkshire Council commented: "Being a part of this project and winning awards tell us that the project was as successful as we felt being a part of it, throughout both the design and construction phase."
Steven Welch, Capital Projects Manager for Sport England, commented: "Sport England are proud to be a part of the fantastic new facility, Bridlington Leisure Centre, and think it is a fitting replacement for the old Leisure World and it creates an inspiring facility for the future generation."
