As part of a wider project to improve college buildings and attract more students, Faithful+Gould has been appointed by Newman College of Higher Education to provide masterplanning, quantity surveying and building surveying services.

The Birmingham-based project and cost management consultancy, in conjunction with Associated Architects and consultant engineers Couch Perry & Wilkes has produced a masterplan for the college to highlight areas and facilities in need of refurbishment, identifying those which will take priority.

One action identified in the masterplan is the upgrade of the main lecture theatre, which Faithful+Gould is providing project management and quantity surveying services for. The ultimate aim is for students to enjoy and, more importantly, benefit from, a modern environment which is more conducive to learning.

Faithful+Gould’s outstanding experience in the education sector has already seen the company become an integral part of many schemes across the Midlands and the UK. To date, Faithful+Gould has been involved in a number of Building Schools for the Future projects and boasts long-term relationships with both UCE and the University of Birmingham.

Managing surveyor on the project, Nigel Brant, commented: “Newman College is committed to providing the very best in terms of learning facilities for its students and approached us to help them decide how to realise their vision.

“With the government doing all it can to encourage more young people into higher education, institutions are having to be fully prepared for the rising numbers of applications, and know that their buildings and facilities need to be attractive and fully equipped.”

Tony Sharma, Newman director of finance commented: “Applications to Newman continue to rise year on year and if we are to continue to produce high quality graduates we need to provide excellent resources and facilities.

“Taking a long-term, strategic approach to campus developments enables us to ensure we meet the current and future needs of students, staff and our local community. Faithful+Gould and our other professional advisors assist us in making these strategic decisions, and gain maximum value from every pound invested.”
