A Scotsman has taken charge of the day-to-day UK operations of one of the world’s largest project and cost management consultancies.

Donald Lawson, from Edinburgh, will now head-up operations for Faithful+Gould in the UK following his promotion to chief operating officer. It is the first time that a Scotsman has been appointed to the role.

Having been with the project management and cost consultants for over 20 years, Donald is one of the company’s most valued executives. He joined a fledgling Faithful+Gould Edinburgh office in 1986, from leading architectural and engineering practice RMJM, which he joined after graduating from Heriot Watt University.

Donald’s career with Faithful+Gould has taken him across all sectors from offshore works and gas pipelines, to managing the whole Inland Revenue estate across Scotland and working as Client Account Director for the Royal Bank of Scotland. In addition, Donald also leads Technology development at Faithful+Gould and plays a key part in the company’s ongoing development and delivery of its five-year business plan. Donald was also a key player in the team responsible for driving the Faithful+Gould brand re-launch earlier this year.

Commenting on his new role, Donald, says: "I'm really excited by this new challenge. I have seen Faithful+Gould evolve over the years and it is in fantastic shape today. I've always firmly believed that our major asset is our people, so I'm looking to build further upon our high staff-satisfaction levels by maintaining an enjoyable working environment with endless opportunity for career development, which will ensure that we continue to retain, as well as attract, the most talented professionals in this business.

"I also want to continue driving our technology changes forward to help us excel in everything we do. We have recently made significant investment in a new knowledge management system. We are confident that the investment will reap significant improvements in our business processes and productivity."

Faithful+Gould is a member of the Atkins Group of companies. Employing more than 2,000 staff, it is one of the world’s largest project and cost management consultancies with a turnover in excess of £120 million and has an expanding office base worldwide.

"This is an exciting time for Faithful+Gould in Scotland," Lawson adds. "Already this year we have opened for business two fantastic new offices in the heart of the Edinburgh and Glasgow financial districts that have provided us with the springboard from which we can significantly expand our team here and grow the business. Building on the collaborative spirit which is rapidly increasing between Faithful+Gould offices and our other colleagues across Atkins, is also key to the success of the business across the whole of the UK. This collaboration will ensure that we provide our very best technical expertise to existing and prospective clients alike."

Lawson's appointment follows Group Managing Director Richard Hall relocation to the USA.
