The Events Complex Aberdeen opens providing a new world-class facility for Scotland

Faithful+Gould are delighted to announce the opening of The Events Complex Aberdeen (TECA).

As Construction Monitor,  Faithful+Gould, together with Atkins, is supporting Aberdeen City Council with this £380m, once-in-a-generation project.

TECA will provide a new world-class facility for Scotland, offering four times the exhibition space as the former AECC, hosting host existing international events and will compete nationally and internationally for new events, with hopes to heighten the appeal of the North East to a global audience. The 48,000 sqm of flexible event space also comprises of 7 conference and exhibition facilities, 15,000 arena capacity, an energy centre and 350 bedrooms across two on-site hotels.

The new facility is a key component of Aberdeen City Council’s Strategic Infrastructure Plan to grow the city’s economy. TECA is expected to bring an additional 4.5m visitors, £113 million of visitor spend and £63m net GVA to the Scottish economy. Located in Bucksburn, adjacent to the airport, TECA will replace the current Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre in Bridge of Don.

In September, the new facility hosted its first event, Europe’s leading exploration & production event, SPE Offshore Europe Faithful+Gould provided handover assurance support, together with Programme and Project Management and Principal Designer services in relation to the Client fit-out works, warranting operational readiness to Aberdeen City Council and supporting SMG on the run up to this significant event.

With 38,000+ attendees, SPE Offshore Europe is recognised by offshore Exploration and Production (E&P) professionals as Europe’s leading E&P event. Faithful+Gould were heavily involved in quality management of the development which included quality monitoring and inspections carried out by both Faithful+Gould and Atkins. We managed technical installations and enhancements to base build including audio, visual, lighting and sound installations together with FF+E, Signage/Wayfinding and enhancements to the main arena mother grid.

A central part of getting the venue ready for the event included, converting the 33,250 square metre subterranean space, which will be used mainly as an underground car park, into additional exhibition space for this momentous event.

Like all major events venues, TECA incorporates thorough CTSA-compliant security requirements, and these form a critical part of the cost and project management plans.

Entertainment acts and performers already confirmed to perform at the new world-class facility include big names such as; Elton John, Alice Cooper and Russell Howard.
