A managing surveyor from Faithful+Gould’s North Region has won an esteemed safety award from one of its major UK clients, EDF Energy.

Trevor Bayles, who has been seconded into the EDF Nuclear Generation’s Heysham 2 site to provide cost engineering as part of a managed service agreement, was given the best Peer to Peer (P2P) award of 2013 after raising concerns about an individual’s actions and coaching them on how to behave correctly.

"I'm delighted that I won the P2P award, but more importantly that I’ve influenced and coached an individual to behave in a safer manner."

As part of the drive to improve safety at Heysham, which is divided into two separately-managed advanced gas-cooled reactor stations, Heysham 1 and Heysham 2, EDF Nuclear Generation encourages personnel to perform P2P reviews to advocate appropriate behaviours and safety awareness.

Trevor said: "There are over 1000 staff at the Heysham site and due to the type of environment we are working in, safety is of paramount importance. I'm delighted that I won the P2P award, but more importantly that I’ve influenced and coached an individual to behave in a safer manner."

"Safety is at the forefront of all our operations and taking personal responsibility of coaching others within a client environment is a true testament to this."

Tony Brown, Faithful+Gould’s Regional Director and EDF Nuclear Generation Project Manager

Tony Brown, regional director and acting EDF nuclear generation project manager, said: "Safety is at the forefront of all our operations and taking personal responsibility of coaching others within a client environment is a true testament to this. Trevor has proven to be a fantastic ambassador for Faithful+Gould’s and EDF’s safety values."

Trevor’s P2P review was considered the most significant on Heysham 2 power station in 2013 by a panel of EDF safety experts and was rewarded with a meal for himself and his wife.
