Nottingham Academy

With 3520 students Nottingham Academy will be the biggest school in Europe when it is fully opened in September 2012. Faithful+Gould provided: Project management of design phase, cost management, authority's representative, independent certifier. The Academy has been formed from the merger of 2 secondary and 1 primary school. The inclusion of primary provision within the Academy means it will be the first "all-through" main stream school in the City. Students will be able to join as young as 3 and can be taught right through to diploma and A level age.

The Academy is split over 3 sites:

Site 1 - Ransom Road (former Elliot Durham School)

  • 1000 students, 10,000m2

The existing school is stripped back to its structural frame and re-clad, re-modeled and fully refurbished. A link bridge will connect the 2 main blocks.

Site 2 - Greenwood Road 1 (former Jesse Boot Nursery and Primary School)

  • 1,920 students, 17,000m2

New build provision on the former school playing fields. There will also be an extension of the sports facilities on the former junior school site adjoining Colwick Woods. This will house the main administrative offices of the Academy.

Site 3 - Greenwood Road 2 (former Greenwood Dale School)

  • 600 students, 5,100m2

Works comprise the refurbishment of existing buildings and remodeling, including removal of temporary buildings to provide better access and car parking.

The new and refurbished buildings will provide facilities fit for a 21st Century education. The Academy will offer welcoming entrances and is designed to ensure a safe and secure environment for all students and staff. Learning zones offer a variety of rooms of different sizes, along with independent learning areas for individual or small group work. The design of the academy ensures that there will be access for all regardless of any special needs.
