Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Ystalyfera is a secondary school and 6th form centre in the heart of the Welsh Valleys. The school comprises of a number of traditional and CLASP buildings. This project saw the refurbishment of two main CLASP blocks.
Faithful+Gould was appointed by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council in April 2009. The Scape Design Team Framework was used to design, procure and manage the contract through to completion in September 2009. The scope of the project was to carry out full flat roof covering and window replacements on the 2 and 3 storey CLASP blocks, including any associated internal and external remedial works.
Due to the tight project delivery timeframe we decided to utilise the Scape Contractors' Framework. This allowed us to bring on board an experienced contractor to co-ordinate and manage the specialist roofing and window contractors. This project has significantly improved the thermal efficiency of the building and has improved its EPC rating. This has resulted in reduced carbon emissions for the entire site. In addition, the project has enhanced the learning environment of the pupils and improved the overall look of both buildings.
