Cambridgeshire County Council appointed Faithful+Gould under the OGC Buying Solutions (now renamed as Government Procurement Service) Framework to lead a team in the design and delivery of a new £14.3m secondary school in Cambourne, Sheepfold Lane, Upper Cambourne.
The school accomodates students between the ages of 11 and 16, members of the existing Cambourne community and the children who attended the three primary schools already established within the village.
The new school now provides a total of 750 places for pupils. The accommodation comprised general teaching spaces and specialist facilities for the teaching of science, technology, sport, art and drama.
Faithful+Gould and the contractor for this project were both engaged at initial concept design. This has allowed us to establish a collaborative relationship in terms of a working ethos with the contractor aiding overall programme and budgetary control.
With an extremely tight budget we established value engineering workshops to ensure this project remained on cost. We also selected the Yorkon Modular Frame System for this project as it reduced design and construction period and mitigated programme issues. The state-of-the-art school was completed for the start of the academic year, in September 2013.
