Faithful+Gould and our parent company, Atkins, have been appointed to provide multi-disciplinary services including both project management and quantity surveying for this scheme through the Government Procurement Service framework.
The £7.5m project is split into two main phases, and following the completion of Phase 1 of the College’s refurbishment programme in 2011, Faithful+Gould proposed to the client that Level 2 Building Information Modelling (BIM) approach was used for Phase 2 (Engineering Building Refurbishment). We met with the client and explained the benefits that BIM could bring to the scheme. Following the client’s acceptance, Atkins started work on creating a model of the existing building, and the client was extremely satisfied with the result. All design work was done using Revit and other BIM compliant applications; 3D images and walkthroughs were provided to the College who in turn used these as part of their consultation process with various stakeholders, including students.
Faithful+Gould used BIM Measure for taking off the quantities and for auto-generation of schedules. We are now actively working with the College's Estates Department to help them use BIM for management of their estate.
