Guildford College Group has recently merged with Activate Learning and provides further and higher education across three diverse campuses in Surrey. The vast range of courses and apprenticeships on offer requires an extremely varied estate of properties. The facilities operated by the Guildford College Group include a 400-acre agricultural college, with an indoor riding school and stabling, and a purpose-built town centre campus hosting a radio station and a fully operational beauty salon open to the public. Additionally, the group operates a sixth form college on the site of a former grammar school constructed at the turn of the last century.
As part of the merger process, Activate Learning appointed Faithful+Gould to undertake a condition survey of the Guildford College campuses. Our expertise in consulting and reporting on the condition of buildings, combined with our reputation within the education sector, expertly positioned us to undertake detailed stock condition surveys and produce a 5-year planned maintenance programme.
To execute the surveys, Faithful+Gould brought together a team of surveyors from offices across the country bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the project. In order to collect data quickly and accurately, in the format required by our client, we engaged with a consultant who regularly collaborates with Faithful+Gould to produce bespoke software enabling surveyors to capture data on site in real time. This increased efficiency and accuracy, allowing for live reporting of data across the survey programme.
Faithful+Gould provided the client with written summaries for each campus and building, accompanied by interactive data which the user can easily manipulate through simple dashboards, graphics, and reports. This output supported our client with the planning of their forward maintenance strategy over the next 5 years and enabled them to prioritise works that require urgent attention.
