Flagship PFI redevelopment of Grade II listed building situated in the shadows of the Palace of Westminster, to provide modern facilities for Her Majesty’s Treasury Department. Faithful+Gould was appointed as cost consultant to Exchequer Partnership, a consortium comprising Stanhope and Bovis Lend Lease.
The approach: Working closely with trade contractors from an early stage to provide an affordable design for the end user. Developing cost efficient solutions to ensure the building envelope complied with Government’s strict security/anti-terrorist regulations. The challenges: Delivering modern, open plan office accommodation within the confines of the existing architecture, yet maintaining a sympathetic approach to English Heritage’s cultural wishes. Working around and keeping the Cabinet War Rooms (part of the Imperial War Museum) open throughout the construction period. The project was completed ahead of programme and to budget. The project received many awards, including: 2003 BCO Regional and National Winner in the Refurbished Workplace category, 2003 BCIA High Commendation in Major Projects Category, 2003 Best PFI Design at Public Private Finance Awards and 2003 Nomination for Prime Minister's Better Building Award.
