Faithful+Gould delivered a £4.5m upgrade project before time and under budget for major water company, Northumbrian Water Limited (NWL).
The Hustledown Sewage Treatment Works (STW) Upgrade project was a great success for NWL with the process performance of the works far exceeding expectations and demonstrating significantly reduced life cycle costs.
The project comprised large scale civil engineering works providing four new 34 metre diameter percolating stone filters, refurbishment of the existing filters, construction of an additional primary settlement tank, a new final settlement tank, various distribution and flow split chambers and associated site wide pipework and infrastructure.
A key consideration was the need to keep the existing asset operational during the upgrading works. Regular commissioning meetings with NWL and the contractor forced careful planning at an early stage of the programme allowing all parties a clear understanding of the challenges, proposed methodology and actions required to ensure success.
Hedley Young, NWL’s Project Manager for the upgrading works, said, "Faithful+Gould’s performance in providing ECC project management and cost management services at Hustledown was excellent. Ultimately the project was a great success, achieving the projected benefit, on time, and within budget. Faithful+Gould played a significant part in the success."
