The Karela Office Park development is the first building in Greece to achieve certification using LEED and Faithful+Gould was the LEED assessor. The 61,574m2 building achieved a 'Gold' status and is now the headquarters for Greece’s largest telecommunications service provider OTE-COSMOTE.
Commissioned by Dimand SA, Faithful+Gould’s sustainability experts assisted in the development and assessment of all sustainable design strategies, in addition to managing both design and construction teams through the LEED certification and submission process. Some of the sustainablity outcomes achieved from the project include:
Extensive use of natural daylight with a facade that incorporates solar controlled shading screens, which completely shade the office areas from harsh solar heat gain to reduce energy operating costs and improving occupant comfort.
The highly efficient heating and cooling system which recovers heat within the building
Low VOC materials (paints, adhesives, carpets) which contribute to maintaining a healthy environment
An integrated water conservation strategy with water saving features, a waste water treatment plant and a rainwater harvesting system, which contributed to a 42% reduction from the baseline water demand.
The buildings’s environmental performance is within the top 23% of all LEED projects.
