The project comprises the redevelopment of the existing Karolinska University Hospital and involves the design, construction, financing and operation of a new acute hospital on the existing site in north Stockholm as a Public Private Partnership (PPP). The PPP agreement is between Stockholm County Council and the project company Swedish Hospital Partners AB.
Once complete, it will have 730 in-patient beds (all in single bedded rooms) and 36 operating theatres. In addition to the main building, a technical/FM building, a treatment building, research laboratories, and car park will be provided.
The scheme is the largest healthcare PFI/PPP scheme in Europe and the first PPP building in Sweden; Faithful+Gould has been integral to the project so far, providing technical due diligence services in the period leading to financial close, as well as construction and operational phase monitoring and certification services to senior funders.
