Faithful+Gould is part of the professional team appointed by Network Rail to take the Kings Cross Hub scheme through the feasibility phase. The project will see creation of a new Western Concourse for Kings Cross Station. The new concourse will accommodate increased passenger flow from the new platform Y.
The project will also include: Renewal of all the station's existing platforms, a new footbridge linking the Concourse with platforms, refurbishment of the existing East and West Range offices. On completion of the Western Concourse, the existing Southern Concourse will be demolished, revealing the facade of the Grade 1 listed station. The facade will be refurbished and a new piazza built. Faithful+Gould has provided pre-contract cost management services, including: Cost planning, financial modelling, optioneering studies, risk management, benchmarking.
We maintained strict control over the developing brief. This ensured that the final scheme met the Client's brief without including "design creep" from third parties with a separate agenda. We helped to prepare Network Rail's project business plan, and were involved in risk and value management exercises throughout the duration of the project. We contributed to the evaluation of the breakdown of assets for Capital Allowances and Network Rail/ORR internal funding requirements. We also prepared life cycle cost spreadsheets for Network Rail funding requirements.
