North Tyneside Council had ambitions to become involved in Building Schools for the Future (BSF) as soon as possible, having been originally scheduled for investment at some point between 2011 and 2014. North Tyneside Council successfully obtained earlier entry into the BSF programme after developing a radical education vision that places schools at the heart of communities and at the centre of providing integrated support services for children and families.
The total project comprises the refurbishment / rebuilding of thirteen middle and secondary schools and one Special Educational Needs (SEN) school. It is broken down into 5 initial projects. The project also includes the provision of ICT services for the schools and the council is seeking to align the delivery of the secondary schools with their primary capital programme to deliver campus solutions at some of the school sites.
Faithful+Gould, with Atkins, was selected by North Tyneside Council to provide project management, technical and ICT support to the project. The project will be undertaken and delivered by a Local Education Partnership (LEP) which will be established following a competitive procurement process and will include a mixture of design and build and PFI projects. Faithful+Gould is supporting North Tyneside Council through the development of the project's strategy for change, outline business case and procurement of the LEP up to the point of formation of the LEP and contract signature for the initial school projects.
