Ongar Academy - Bond Bryan

The Ongar Academy project involved the construction of a new four form of entry academy school facility for up to 800 pupils. The internal spaces are of 600 m2 of new accommodation over two to three storeys, with a variety of assets including classrooms, laboratories, arts and crafts workshops, catering facilities, three court sports hall, an activity studio with changing facilities, and administrative facilities. The external areas include a new car park as well as a refurbished existing car park, social spaces, picnic areas and an all-weather sports facility (MUGA).

The Faithful+Gould safety services team assisted the Principal Designer with identifying design risk associated with the overall design and communicating this to the whole project team.

Faithful+Gould raised awareness of the use of products which contain silica. Additionally we recommended designing out the need for cutting and grinding products containing silica to minimise exposure to silica dust.

Ongoing services that the team continue to provide are working with the the Principal Designer to ensure they compliance with their duties under CDM Regulations 2015. Reviewing the available preconstruction information and advising on suitability of information. Reviewing the Principal Design construction phase planning to ensure it identifies and takes into account risks identified during design stage.

Key challenges resolved by the team include the accessible plant for the roof of various heights and levels. Faithful+Gould worked with the designers to propose an access and maintenance strategy, and looked at collective protection for the roof and other high levels areas, they also ensured the safe use and maintenance of the plant for future use.
