Faithful+Gould was appointed by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) to provide multi-disciplinary services for the design and construction of a new £2.25m state of the art fire station in Retford.
The works, which form part of NFRS's strategic plan, included the identification of a site within Retford for use as a temporary fire station, along with enabling works and decanting from the existing fire station to the temporary site. The existing site was then demolished, the site cleared and a new fire station was designed and constructed. The operational capability of the station (both from the temporary and the new site) was maintained throughout the entire period of the project.
As well as housing Retford's existing firefighters, the new station will become a northern training hub, with an upgraded road traffic collision area, refurbished tower and firehouse. The energy efficient design and sustainable technologies, including energy efficient plant and equipment, will reduce the building’s carbon footprint and minimise maintenance and running costs.
