Nottingham City Council commissioned Faithful+Gould to deliver building surveying and principal designer services on the construction of a new school block to provide an additional three classrooms, an intervention space, toilets, storage and circulation space. The project also created a dedicated outdoor play area for the foundation stage pupils.
We developed the main scheme design in-house using Revit 3D software. This provided the client, school staff and stakeholders with added value in understanding the design from an early stage and ensured that there were no surprises later in the project.
Environmental and sustainability features of the project include:
- Photo voltaic panels on the roof
- Tree surveys were carried out at feasibility stage to ensure the local wildlife and environment was not harmed
- PIR light sensors have been installed throughout to ensure energy wastage is minimised
- Automatic thermostats for heating are also present to further improve the energy performance of the building.
User feedback has been positive with staff at the school very pleased with how Faithful+Gould took on board input and ideas, made amendments where possible and worked cooperatively on the design. The reaction from parents of pupils in the new building has been overwhelmingly positive, and the children think it is brilliant.
