Faithful+Gould was commissioned by Loughborough University to provide employer’s agent, cost management, health and safety advice and BREEAM assessor on this £17m state of the art learning facility.
STEMlab is predominately a student focused learning environment with a ‘drop-in’ engineering workshop, alongside modern laboratories and teaching spaces. The facilities include a design studio, 3-D printing suite, microscopy suite, characterisation suite, electronics laboratory, computer aided engineering studio, a bio-preparation suite and a STEM Ideas Factory.
The BREEAM Excellent rated facility will greatly enhance the University’s provision for existing and new STEM students and has already enabled the launch of new degree programmes. This will allow the University to expand its provision of graduates into a multitude of UK Industry sectors and further promote Loughborough University as one of the leading 20 research-led universities in the country.
The facility will also allow Loughborough University to build on their successful outreach work to engage school-age students in STEM subjects.
The project has won the Design through Innovation category at the RICS Awards 2018, East Midlands and is shortlisted for the RICS Awards 2018 Grand Final on 2 November.
“Loughborough University are delighted with the new STEMLab building. The whole team worked in
close partnership with the University and have delivered an outstanding facility on time and to budget.”
