Faithful+Gould were appointed by Atkins to redevelop and relocate their headquarters due to the condition of the existing building at Woodcote Grove.
Following a review of the alternate methods including relocation, a developer sale and lease back option was procured for a new building. Faithful+Gould led the design team throughout the design development, through planning application and consent, up to RIBA Stage 3 detailing the required specification. The design allowed for the reduction on the campus from three to two buildings whilst still accommodating 1,800 staff and visitors. The design built upon the Atkins design guides to deliver the specific requirements of an engineering design practice.
Prior to the final moves, Faithful+Gould delivered a restack of the client’s existing Epsom campus. This included identifying opportunities to diversify and consolidate space requirements in the four existing offices. To deliver this the team undertook multiple works simultaneously, including alterations to the base build, removing and introducing Cat B elements and providing furniture solutions to meet the agile environment detailed in the design guides. Faithful+Gould churned over 300 staff successfully across the campus, returning areas on time in accordance with lease break requirements.
Sustainability played a key role in the design, with the building strategically positioned to maximise on solar benefits, ventilation and natural light. The building was also developed in line with the highest sustainability standards, including receiving a BREEAM Excellent rating and an A-rated Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
